FAR Mission Statement:
The Firelands Area Runners is a non-profit running club in northwestern Ohio. The prime purpose of the Firelands Area Runners (FAR) is the promotion of running as a means of better mental and physical health and as a recreational activity. To this end, Firelands Area Runners provides guidance and assistance to numerous local road races. The club also has clinics, picnics, dinners, outings and a monthly newsletter. The club is open to all with an interest in running regardless of gender, race or ability. Firelands Area Runners is a Charter Member of the Road Runners Club of America.

Scholarship Program:
As part of the Firelands Area Runners Club’s mission to encourage long-distance running, a scholarship program has been set up to further assist in the development of local high school runners in their pursuit of life-long fitness. All high school seniors residing in the Erie County area may apply. A minimum of one male and one female student will be selected per year to receive an award of $250.00 each, upon written evidence of enrollment in a university or college. Winners and their parents will be announced by the beginning of June each year and invited to attend the club annual summer social.

Criteria for Application:

  • The applicant must:
    • Be a high school senior in good standing and in the process of applying to a college academic program.
    • Demonstrate an interest in and commitment to distance running.
    • Maintain a 2.5 (or higher) G.P.A. during his/her high school career.
    • Reside in Erie County.
  • Financial need is not a consideration.

Process:
A written application for the scholarship program will need to be completed and submitted to the Firelands Area Runners Club by April 1. Application materials are available from student’s high school guidance counselor or online (see below). Please provide clear evidence of your current high school G.P.A. (e.g., copy of school transcripts or report card). Completed materials should be submitted to:

Firelands Area Runners Club
1011 Alpine Drive
Sandusky, OH, 44870
